Outpatient Addiction Treatment Facilities

When faced with addictions, and having decided to make a commitment to obtaining assistance, there are several options available for treatment. But, the options depend on location, price, convenience and personal preference. Often, individuals choose an addiction treatment program that allows them to carry on with their lives while undergoing treatment. For many, regardless of how committed they are to finding solutions and feeling better, they still need to go to work, care for their children, and basically continue with their normal schedule. Not everyone is rich enough to take time from work for an extended stay in an expensive rehab spa. Further, a person's addiction may be such that it does not require a complete and total immersion in rehab. Therefore, outpatient addiction treatment facilities are more suitable.

Further, when people have suffered with addictions for most of their lives, outpatient treatment may be more of a preventative measure, to help the individual stay on the straight and narrow road. As addictions are usually the outcome of other issues, outpatient addiction treatment facilities allow doctors and counselors to treat patients for longer durations, thereby creating a supporting environment and a long nurturing healing period. For adults who have experienced childhood trauma, the addictions have had a long time to control their lives. Obviously, the problems are not going to go away over night. So long term and maybe even lifelong treatment is beneficial.

Outpatient treatments may include a variety of programs such as group therapy, personalized one-on-one contact, and seminars. The level of intensity will vary as well. Some programs are weekly meetings, while others are full-day seminars and workshops. Because individuals are free to go home after the sessions, the cost of treatment is relatively inexpensive compared to inpatient facilities where one stays for the duration of the treatment. Additionally, many communities offer free services and meetings which are generally referred to as "twelve step meetings".

Another benefit of choosing outpatient addiction treatment facilities is the fact that's one schedule is not disrupted as severely as if they resided at the facility. Sessions are scheduled outside of work and school hours, thus, better meeting the needs of the users. Plus, people with children can make arrangements for child care much easier for a few hours a week, as opposed to a full month or six week period. Lastly, many people worry about what others might think or say. Being away for a long period of time opens up one to scrutiny and questions about where they are going. Outpatient care makes the process more comfortable and more private for some individuals.

Finally, outpatient treatment allows individuals to work through their issues and apply the principles or techniques while continuing their normal schedule. Patients can determine right away whether they can cope with the outside influences and combat their fears. And when something does creep up on them, they can discuss it at the next session in an attempt to find solutions or to better deal with the adversity. Outpatient treatment is more hands on in that sense.

One last consideration that will be a determining factor when choosing between inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment facilities is the insurance plan. Coverage is quite different among insurers and may or may not cover inpatient treatment centers. Also, insurance companies will most likely require pre-approval before agreeing to pay for any program.
